“Batman has no limits,” says Bruce Wayne to his manservant, Alfred, early in “The Dark Knight,” and the accountants at Warner Brothers, which released the movie, are likely to agree. I’m not so sure. ( Read more... )new york times

And speaking of words, when you're watching a dubbed or subtitled movie or reading a book that was translated from another language, are there any words or phrases that drive you up the wall because you just know they translated it wrong? ( my peeve )

On Monday morning I got up early and made chocolate chip pancakes from scratch for my SO before he went to work. I even went out and bought a bottle of pure maple syrup as a special treat instead of just using that Log Cabin stuff.
30 minutes later he started gasping and choking and nearly stopped breathing. I rushed him to the ER and had to stand and watch as they tried to get the combined anaphylactic shock/asthma attack under control. I lost count of the number of epinephrine shots they gave him. Five more minutes and he would have died.
Turns out, he is allergic to maple pollen and apparently maple syrup as well. I feel fairly horrible about nearly killing him so both of us are going to find an allergist so we can help prevent something like this from happening again.
What are you allergic to? Have you ever had a sever reaction? Have you ever been to an allergist? If so, what is the visit like? What kinds of tests do they do?
I know I'm allergic to bees and other stinging insects.

Spike TV's critically-acclaimed, funktastic anime series "Afro Samurai" returns with an original movie event set to premiere on the network in January 2009. "Afro Samurai: Resurrection" stars Academy Award-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson opposite, Emmy Award-nominated actress Lucy Liu. Award winning artist The RZA once again provides the original score. "Afro Samurai: Resurrection" is produced by Japanese studio GONZO in association/partnership with GDH K.K. and FUNimation Entertainment. "Afro Samurai: Resurrection" is based on the original art and story telling of manga artist Takashi Okazaki, of a black samurai's quest for revenge and justice for his murdered father. Samuel L. Lucy Liu will give voice to Sio, a beautiful, seductive and sadistic mastermind plotting to destroy Afro Samurai. Liu is the star of several Hollywood blockbuster action-adventure films including Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill and has joined the cast of the ABC drama "Dirty Sexy Money." Spice Girl Mel C today told of the two emotions which inspired her to play at a concert dedicated to murdered schoolboy Rhys Jones. She spoke of her anger about the death of the 11-year-old, who was shot as he walked home from football practice last year. She also told of her pride in the city she loves, saying she was “over the moon” to be performing at the 10,000-seater ECHO arena. The 34-year-old star hopes the concert will help raise enough cash to build a community centre dedicated to Rhys near his family’s home in Croxteth. Melanie said today: “We aim to ensure Rhys’s name will live on, and that other children have the opportunity to benefit from a community centre where they can play in a safe environment. “I don’t know a person who wasn’t moved by what happened to Rhys. “It was tragic and it made me so angry. “When I was a kid you could play out and it was nothing like it is today. I hope this concert helps to make a difference.” The August 15 fund-raiser will be special for Melanie, as her mother Joan O’Neill will also spice up the show by starring on the same stage. Melanie, who is originally from Rainhill and grew up in Widnes, said: “My mum is more famous than me in Liverpool. Everyone always remembers her gigs and asks how she is. “I love seeing her on stage. We sang together in New York and also at her 50th birthday in Liverpool. But we’ve never done anything like this before. “It will be special to perform at the same show. “It will be even better because it is in Liverpool. Like every Scouser I’m very proud of my home city. “Liverpool has some great venues, but it was about time it had its own arena.
“We can now compete with other cities. I’m over the moon to be performing at the ECHO arena.
“I hope we get lots of bums on seats and raise a lot of money for the community centre. “We will be bringing along a lot of family and friends from Liverpool. “I hope there will be enough seats left to accommodate us. They don’t want to miss this.” Melanie, now in London after playing a number of summer music festivals, is making sure her time on stage is a perfect tribute to Rhys. She added: “I’m used to playing longer sets, so it was difficult to choose the songs. But I’ve decided on an acoustic set and songs which are appropriate for the concert. “I can’t wait to be part of it. I hope the people of Merseyside and beyond join together to support this fantastic event.”

Anne Hathaway could be drawn deeper into the fraud scandal of her ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, now that FBI agents have seized the actress’ private journals, sources tell us. The agents confiscated the intimate diaries of the “Devil Wears Prada” star during another raid on Follieri’s $37,500-a-month Trump Tower pad, according to the sources. Seeking to bolster their case against the dashing Italian, who has been charged with 11 counts of fraud and money laundering, agents are also said to have seized photos of Follieri with Bill and Hillary Clinton, Pope John Paul II, and John and Cindy McCain. Also confiscated were documents, watches, a Tiffany clock, an antique Bible and personal photos of Follieri and Hathaway. Hathaway, who has been charged with no crime, has cut off all contact with the 30-year-old Follieri, say sources. While Follieri recently had associates return to Hathaway a $250,000 abstract painting that had hung in his pad, “she’s changed her numbers so he can’t reach her,” says a friend. “Raffaello has been trying to call her all the time.” ( tl;dr )Anne might as well have had an LJ. Yay for privacy.
Also, it took me forever to find a picture of Anne actually writing in a diary from PD/PD2. So enjoy it! ;)source

So I was bored this morning when I had an internet outage, and I've been wanting to change my default icon since I have better pictures of Simone. I was playing around with different fonts, and ran into a problem--there's too many I like! I can't decide... ( so here's where the question and your help come in... )Here's hoping my internet doesn't go out again...I might have to unpack!

I think I asked this question a long time ago, but I'm asking again anyway. My post yesterday made me think of it.
You have the power to ban one question from ever appearing in AMA again. What will it be? If someone answers the one you were going to answer, pretend that it has been banned and you can add another to the list.

Brooke Hogan issued an apology for making what she now calls false allegations that her father Hulk abused her mother. "I did it under significant pressure from my mother," Hogan, 20, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. "It was only after I learned all the facts that I realized I made a big mistake in signing it." Hogan released the statement after a tabloid reported that she had signed a legal affidavit accusing her father, whose real name is Terry Bollea, of verbally and physically abusing wife Linda during their marriage. Linda, 48, filed for divorce last November, and her attorney told PEOPLE it was going to be "war." Her attorney was not available for comment. A rep for Hulk Hogan declined to comment. In her statement to PEOPLE, Brooke admits to signing the affidavit. But, according to her rep, she later regretted the decision and asked that it not be filed in court. (At this point, according to Hulk's attorney, no such document has been filed.) Brooke's rep says: "Brooke Bollea is distressed at the latest efforts by mother Linda to fracture the family. This time they let leak out an old document that Brooke signed filled with exaggerations and fabrications about father Terry's behavior during the marriage. The months-old document was signed by Brooke at a time when she was upset with her father." Brooke is now living with Hulk, 54, and not on speaking terms with her mother. "I love my mother, and hope to one day reconcile with her," Brooke says. "But using kids as pawns in a divorce is awful. Every day my mother resorts to this kind of behavior makes it that much harder for us to ever have a relationship again." source

Last night i went out with some people from work. We went to a mexican place that offered 46 ounce margaritas. I didnt drink, but everyone else had 2 or more of these huge drinks.
Then everyone drove home.
I did not drink because i knew i had to drive, and in florida if you get stopped and have any alcohol in you, you get arrested and have to spend the night in jail. Im not sure if its like that everywhere, though.
Im really surprised that no one even questioned drinking so much and driving home, and the more i thought about it, the more i realized that most of my friends in the past have always gone out drinking and then driven home.
Do you do this? Do you think youre still ok to drive after only x amount of drinks? Do you think its scary that so many people really do drive while intoxicated? And do you think its as dangerous as its made out to be?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a multivitamin that is more or less odor and taste-free? I've tried VegLife and another whose name I can't remember - and they both smell [and taste] so bad that they trigger my gag reflex. To be fair, I'm very sensitive to that kind of thing, but I'm hoping I can find one that I don't literally have to choke down. Does such a thing exist?

How you can become 'The Dark Knight'
Batman has no powers. Superman flies. Spider-Man spins. Even Ant-Man has the, uh, super-helpful ability to get small. But Batman—for 69 years now, Bruce Wayne has patrolled Gotham City, and the standard line on the guy is that he is the only superhero without a flashy super something. He's just a man. He's ... possibleReally? The guy is a gabillionaire playboy—with a lot of disposable income. We consider this a superpower. But unlike heat vision and telekinesis, it is doable. We can work with this. So, in honor of "The Dark Knight," what we have here is a rough quote—$7.4 million—for those considering the Batman lifestyle. ( go on a shopping spree. )source.

I've just been watching a documentary online which I thought you guys may be interested in as well. Its description says the following: Supermarket Secrets A British documentary series. Covers the reality of the modern supermarket culture, how the look of food is more important than it's nutritional value, how much visually imperfect food goes to waste, how they use our inability to shop for quality food against us, and how the factory farm affects the animals grown for food. Have you ever wondered why so many non-cooking people watch the food channel? Perhaps it is because they are hungry and not getting the nutrition their bodies are crying for.I've just finished watching the first half of it, and even though it's not promoting a meat-free or vegan diet but mainly the "ethical meat" option, it does pay attention to the way cattle is raised nowadays - and I still find these kinds of documentaries interesting to watch. At least the first two parts, since I haven't watched it completely yet, haha. It consists of four parts, which can be found here: Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4I'm kind of lost between the 238217 tags, and I'm not sure whether I should add them or the mods? Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong or help me a little with the tags and I'll add them!
